Application-Led Validation of Advanced Polymer Materials
Context
Avient develops advanced polymer materials for demanding industrial applications. As materials become more specialized and performance expectations rise, it’s important to demonstrate real-world performance early, both for internal teams and for customers.
Early validation helps build confidence, accelerate innovation, and ensure materials deliver reliable, high-performance results in real applications.
The Challenge
Advanced materials often require extensive validation before adoption.
In practice, this can involve:
- multiple testing cycles
- reliance on external filament suppliers
- separation between material development and application testing
This can slow down learning, increase uncertainty, and make it harder to demonstrate material performance in realistic conditions early on.
The Approach
To accelerate insight and reduce validation risk, Avient explored an in-house workflow that allows materials to be tested directly in real application contexts.
By converting compounds or pellets into filament internally and prototyping application parts in-house, material development and application testing could be brought closer together.
